The topic of public transit has been tumuluous throughout the United States's history.
The pandemic took a dagger in how people get around in the San Francisco Bay Area or Bay area for short.
BART is at risk of closing stations due to funding. Lack of operating funds.
MUNI
My job relies on public transit for me to reach my clients. I work IT.
I'm fortunate to own a car. I don't use it often as it's easier to get around using public transit. Finding parking can be an issue and the cost. I only truly use it if I have lots to carry or drive to an area where it's significantly easier to reach via a car.
I need to be able to get to my destinations with no major delays.
Just like myself, people need to hop on the bus to transfer to BART or the MUNI train.
San Francisco is still heavely car dependant and I don't want this to get worse. We don't need more pollution. Most people think of more exhaust fumes coming from cars. Pollution also presents itself in different forms. There's noise, microplastics from rubber tires, runoff from car fluids that end up in our water ways, etc.
Owning a car is already expensive in California. Many of these fees are very justified but still can be expense for low income people. People will have more holes in their pockets with increase car expenses. Maintence that takes time away from jobs, looking for parking, traffic and more.
